Seasoned, contemporary, Canadian artist,
Karen Phillips Curran, living in Nova Scotia
brings a lifetime of experience to her art.
I have always been fascinated by the ephemeral nature of the moment. It's why I work in a series. It is also why I paint in watercolours. But with whatever medium I am using, I tell visual stories of watersides, or of elusive dancing shadows on textured surfaces, or fleeting vignettes that render a tale of the landscape of Nova Scotia and the people who live here...
I also acknowledge that my home and studio are on Mi'kma'ki, the traditional and unceded territory of the Mi'kmaq people. While recognizing that this territory is governed by the Treaties of Peace and Friendship, which established a relationship of peace and friendship between Mi'kmaq, and the British Crown.
welcome
Bear River, in Nova Scotia Canada, is a unique tidal river village.
I welcome you here to my Riverstones Studio.
Overlooking this ancient river valley, I continue to create exciting new artwork in a variety of mediums and sizes. Take a look and you will find something just for you. Bear River is an artists' haven, you can find something for any taste here in this river valley.
I've made my living as an artist since 1974; painting in watercolours, acrylics, latex, oils, pastels, inks, and pencil, as well as using alternative photographic methods and collages to create mixed media. A lifelong explorer, my imagery and mediums change along with time and tide.
My years of theatre set painting has embedded a sense of monumentality in my work. Minimalism and clarity is my stylistic moniker.
